This Flemish neo-Renaissance style house in Saint-Gilles, just steps from the Parvis, was designed in 1881 by the artisan metalworker Prosper Schryvers. He set up his workshop there with a large roof window to make the most of the light. Showcasing his skill, the façade of the house is adorned with very well made ironwork (bars, weather vane, decorations...) still visible today. In 1912, Alfred Van der Kelen established his school of decorative painting there, the only one in the world to teach the technique of faux-marble. The interior reflects these new techniques. Still in use, the school welcomes new students in this exceptional place full of history every year.
