Nestled in the park of the same name, the Tournay-Solvay Château was built in 1880 by architects Constant Bosmans and Henri Vandeveld who designed several buildings for the Solvay dynasty throughout their careers. Commissioned by Alfred, the company director who would always remain somewhat in the shadow of his older brother Ernest, it was originally an imposing Neo-Renaissance country house and later acquired the status of Château through the addition of a double tower by the architect Jules Brunfaut in 1905. Devastated by a fire in 1982 and subsequently on the point of collapsing, the Château has undergone long and meticulous restoration work led by the ma2 architecture firm in full respect of the surrounding nature, a protected site designated Natura 2000.
