Although the Musée Camille Lemonnier has been in existence for almost 30 years, it remains a little-known gem in the heart of Ixelles, and can normally only be visited by appointment. The majestic 1889 mansion with its neo-classical façade has been home to the Association des écrivains belges de langue française since 1946, which organises its board meetings and literary activities in eclectic salons decorated with paintings borrowed from the Musée d'Ixelles. A staircase leads to the museum, where you can admire the reconstructed study - including the personal library and art collection - of Camille Lemonnier. Lemonnier was one of the most important French-speaking Belgian writers of the nineteenth century. The art collection, which includes works by Auguste Rodin, Emile Claus, Joseph Lambeaux, Théo Van Rysselberghe and Juliette Wytsman, continues in the adjoining room. The tour ends in the small documentation room, where Lemonnier's original manuscripts and fine editions of his works are kept.
